What an incredible new year it’s shaping up to be for hospitality technology! At America's Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS Conference), Beekeeper presented our award-winning hotel operations communication tools along with five fellow hospitality technology companies as part of the inaugural ALIS Tech Challenge competition. We’re excited to announce Beekeeper was chosen as the ALIS Tech Challenge Hottest Technology of 2019!
Held in Los Angeles, CA, January 28-30, 2019, the ALIS conference hosted over 3,000 hospitality industry professionals. Prevalent throughout the conference’s keynote presentations and panel discussions was the ongoing dilemma around how to attract and retain top talent.
Without a doubt, the major theme that emerged from the conversations at ALIS is that hoteliers need to continue strategizing on how to motivate employees and find the right people to help keep the hospitality industry performing at high standards.
Solutions touted throughout the conference included providing incentives scholarships to appeal to younger demographics, which are necessary to fill current hotel workforce vacancies. “The labor issue continues to keep C-level hotel executives up at night, especially now that unemployment is at an all-time low and the cost of labor is on the rise with no signs of slowing," said Connie Rheams, Beekeeper’s VP of Hospitality.
Other conference attendees echoed these concerns, including AH&LA chairman Geoff Ballotti, president of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, who noted that the Wyndham hotel brand alone was continuing to invest in creative ways to fill 900,000 hotel job vacancies.
As one of five companies pitching hospitality technology solutions, Beekeeper impressed the ALIS Tech Challenge judges by demonstrating how mobile communication tools provide real-time access to and improve hotel operations. The presentation also emphasized why a hotel technology solution designed specifically for the non-desk workforce is necessary to adequately connect a property’s different teams to each other and to the operational systems they rely on.
The presentations began on the second day of the conference, with Rheams presenting new features of our hospitality communication tools platform. Fittingly, the following selected hoteliers comprised the judges panel: Robert A. Alter, President, Seaview Investors, LLC; Maki N. Bara, President & Co-Founder, Chartres Lodging; and Kurien Jacob, Principal, Highgate Ventures.
One of the new Beekeeper features Rheams detailed in the presentation was Locations, which facilitates fast and easy multi-property management to better measure operations and engagement. Importantly, Locations allows administrators a clear overview of exactly what's going on both the local property and company-wide levels.
"We would like to thank ALIS for adding this Tech Challenge to their impressive line-up of educational sessions and networking events. We are honored to have been recognized, and hope to hold this title for years to come as we begin expanding our communication platform with operational features to increase employee efficiency and alignment." –Connie Rheams, VP of Hospitality, Beekeeper
The net takeaway from this year’s ALIS conference? Hoteliers must create an company culture and workplace environment where their employees want to work and feel they can build a career. Understanding that hotels experience significant challenges with employee engagement and retention due to a lack of effective communication tools, it’s our goal here at Beekeeper to design hotel technology to empower and motivate employees. We know this can be achieved by connecting them with the resources they need to do their job well – so they not only look forward to coming to work but feel committed to your company.
A huge thank you to our fellow ALIS Tech Challenge competitors 4DPresence/4Dp Live, Intelity, myDigitalOffice, Spaceez, and Travelsify, to ALIS, and to the ALIS Tech Challenge judges! See you next year.
